Let me begin with what I found very boring about this DVD:
There is almost a half hour of college partying, sex, drugs, and clubbing, which had nothing to do with Horror in general. (At least, they could have had some flash scenes of torture and other gore that was included in the film later, through out the first 25 scenes.)
The dudes' friends disappear, and there is only one instance where I was glued, when they went into the Museum of Horror following someone they, thought was their friend. Frantically they are searching to no avail for their friends, until finally led into Hell themselves.
The torture scenes were short. I would had done it differently, with more action and torture.
The whole idea of a place to pay for torturing a victim is very unreal, and takes one scenario of a Serial Killer's delight out of the mix, THE HUNT for victims.
What I did enjoy about the Film:
The revenge that had taken place…
The gore was very real.
And, there was a lot of gore. (Where as most Hollywood films cut to and away from the actual gore-taking place.)
With that said I would give it a thumbs up.
But, on a scale of 1 through 5, I'd have to say 3.

Yeah...this movie had way too much sex at the beginning. And I never thought Id say that about a movie..lol...but this one forces me too. It just had shit all to do with the movie.
If I wanna watch Porn, i'll watch Porn. But If I want to watch Horror, thats what I expect to see..is something about Horror. Instead of the last hour or so being thrown together and the plot finally playing out.
Not a bad movie though, the first half hour just sucks.

I couldnt tell if I was watching a porn, or a college goodtime comedy movie.
For sure it was strange and hard to figure. Nothing like Pulp Fiction or any other Terintino flics.
I think the best part was when he finally escaped and ran into another psycho who was pumped about his turn in the Halls of Hell.

They could have added more torture scenes. I really expected something totally different. I mean I knew there would be sex and drugs involved, but not 1/2 of the Movie's worth.

I thought that Hostel was really terrible. The gore was barely there for me and the sex and drugs were completely uneccesary. It was bad porn with people dieing at the end. I really didnt' see much of a plot either, but because I will have nothing better to do the Friday Hostel 2 comes out I'll probably go see it. I hope it is alot better than the first.
Look, the movie did that "college sex" thing to lull you into a sort of false sense of "fun and partying"....the whole movie is about bodies...screwing them, looking at them, torturing....selling them.
The torture scenes weren't as excruitiating as I been led to believe they would be, but the fact that the "good kid" got the most torture scenes was disturbing. A heartbreaking thing to watch that sort of thing done to a good person, kind of brought back the feeling "Psycho" gave me when Marion Crane was so brutally killed.
If you watch the credits all the way to the end, the "sexy" evil chick's voice pops up to deliver the movie's most disturbing line "I get a lot of money for you...now you're MY bitch...".
I think that explains the reason for all the sex and nudity and, yes, chauvinism at the beginning, I wonder if that's how a lot of women feel about us....that's what we're like, right? No? Pass me the latest "Girls Gone Wild" tape and bring the beer!

This is so true. In reality, the scariest part of this movie was going down the dark halls and wondering what was behind every door. It made me feel helpless. I found myself trying to see what dirty and disgusting tools they were working with and I tried to imagine every unspeakable act. I wanted more of that. Just seeing people hack others up is not scary for me. It gets boring. But dark scary places and the unknown....now that is the ticket.
